Aero Gators
Aerogators is dedicated to giving students from any major or background hands on experience in the Aerospace field. Through time spent designing and building aircraft we aim to prepare our students for industry by providing them the opportunity to apply techniques learned in the classroom, and master new skills that will be of lifelong value. As of September 2020, we have approximately 100 active members. Many of our members are in the college of engineering, but we accept members of any area of study. We teach our members all the skills necessary to design, construct, and pilot aircraft.
This year we want to expand our operation from simply assembling a kit to designing and building an aircraft from scratch. We will be going head to head with Montana State University in a first-of-its-kind powered paraglider design, build, and flight competition. The challenge is to design and conduct a powered paraglider vehicle from scratch over the course of a single school year. At the end of the year both UF and MSU will have our aircraft put through their paces on the ground and in the sky by industry professionals in a rigorous series of tests. |
